How to Package Glass Beauty Bottles Safely in Paper

Beauty products packaged in glass, such as foundation, essence, lotion, face cream, eye cream, perfume, toiletries, etc., need to balance the fragility of the product, brand image, cost and sustainability. Almost anything can spell disaster for glass beauty products, such as bumpy transportation, rough handling, or the use of incorrect packaging. The following is a practical and affordable solution classified by packaging category, verified by years of packaging experience. It ensures that your products are intact, strong, beautiful and high-end.

In the case of retail

According to the type of glass bottles, there are usually the following bottle types:

• Small dropper or pipette bottles (5–30 mL) — serums, facial oils, concentrated treatments.
• Medium pump or lotion bottles (30–150 mL) — moisturizers, lotions, liquid foundations.
• Jar-style glass (15–100 g) — creams, balms, eye creams, mask.
• Tall narrow-neck bottles (30–100 mL) — perfumes, toners, mists.

When these products are sold on store shelves, they usually require a simple yet elegant packaging, which in turn requires certain accessories to support it. The outer boxes are mostly made of high-grammage cardboard, kraft paper, or specialty paper to ensure simplicity while guaranteeing sufficient load-bearing capacity. One very important point about packaging is to minimize the gap between the packaging and the glass bottle. The larger the gap, the easier it is for the bottle to shake and break.

The sponge is soft and usually available in black and white. However, velvet fabric offers a wider range of colors, so choosing the right color is preferable for large orders. For smaller orders, colored velvet fabric is more expensive and therefore not recommended. Sponge is not a good choice when you require an environmentally friendly liner or meet national plastic restriction regulations.

3. Using stiff cardboard with a thickness of 350gsm or higher, regular squares can be die-cut, or shapes can be die-cut to fit the bottle body, thus securing the glass bottle. Precise measurements are required during die-cutting; even a 1mm difference can result in an insecure fixation, while being too tight will prevent the bottle from fitting. The cardboard, when uncoated, is very environmentally friendly, supporting recycling and biodegradability.

4. Using the same rigid grey board as the outer box, a printable paper is pasted onto the surface to cover the grey board’s color, making the inner liner more aesthetically pleasing. Of course, printing text or patterns on the inner liner is also supported. This solution typically requires the bottle to first undergo preliminary cardboard packaging and plastic sealing.

Adequate space should be left between the product and the outer box to prevent immediate contact with the glass bottle after impact or compression. Tissue paper can be used in conjunction with the product.The product’s brand and other information can be printed directly on the shipping box, so separate packaging is not required.

• The outer box should be made of environmentally friendly corrugated kraft paper, which is lightweight and thick, effectively cushioning against impacts and drops. Even minor damage to the outer packaging will not affect the glass bottles inside.

• The middle layer can use corrugated cut partitions or cross partitions to separate each product and avoid direct contact. Or use shredded paper or honeycomb kraft paper to fill the internal space as much as possible, which can also effectively cushion collisions and drops.

• Individually packaged bottles, using robust, printed cardboard packaging and sealed with plastic seals, play a crucial role in protecting the bottles and preventing scratches. During long-distance transport, even tiny particles or dust can cause glass bottles to break or be severely scratched. Therefore, basic individual packaging is essential.
